The steam hung in the air like a secret as the two of them stood in the shower, shoulder to shoulder, as if the room belonged to them alone. Water trickled, laughter echoed off the tiles, and somewhere between the scent of shampoo and the warm dampness lay this silent understanding: Nothing is to be taken seriously today. They hadn’t taken off their nylons – on principle. Delicately shimmering, dark and defiant, they defied every rule of reason and bathroom etiquette. The water made them glisten, tracing lines as if they’d been made especially to play in the light. “Utterly nonsensical,” said one. “But brilliant,” replied the other, grinning. The nylons clung a little, stretched a little, and that was precisely what gave them their charm. They were no longer just an accessory, but a statement: cheeky, self-assured, a little fashionable ‘no’ to expectations. Amidst laughter and teasing glances, it was clear – this was no moment for just one person.
